Bio

Dr Michelle Bellingham is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Biodiversity, One Health and Veterinary Medicine at the University of Glasgow and a recognised expert in reproductive toxicology. Her research explores the impact of low-level exposure to mixtures of environmental chemicals (ECs) on reproductive and metabolic health, using a sheep model. Dr Bellingham’s research has been pivotal in demonstrating how exposure to low-level EC mixtures during gestation can have long term effects on offspring reproductive and metabolic function. 

With over 17 years’ experience in academia, Dr Bellingham has published 40 peer-reviewed articles in the field of chemical exposure, including five ranked in the top 10% most-cited globally.  

Dr Bellingham has served as an expert at policy roundtable events hosted by UKRI, DEFRA, and the Cancer Prevention and Education Society, and is author of a RCOG Scientific Impact Paper on chemical exposures during pregnancy. As a scientific advisor to Breast Cancer UK, she has contributed to public education materials and co-authored recent articles on cancer prevention. Her invited reviews in Reproduction and Animal Biosciences Reviews further reflect her standing in the field. 

Her influence extends through editorial roles as well as her positions as treasurer and trustee board member of the British Society for Neuroendocrinology. A passionate communicator, she regularly engages with the public through science festivals, media outreach (including the Society for Endocrinology’s podcast), and events like "Pint of Science" and “Science Lates.” 

Dr Bellingham brings a wealth of experience from a range of multidisciplinary initiatives in the field of reproductive toxicology and her work exemplifies the integration of rigorous research, scientific communication, and real-world impact.
